INDICATIONS
CEPOXITIL is indicated for the short-term treatment of lower respiratory tract infections caused by susceptible bacteria, including:
- Acute exacerbations of chronic bronchitis
- Community-acquired pneumonia
- Acute sinusitis
- Acute otitis media
- Treatment of uncomplicated infections of the urethra or rectum in women, and uncomplicated urethral infections in men
- Mild to moderate skin and soft tissue infections
DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION
CEPOXITIL is for oral administration and should be taken with meals and plenty of water.
- Adults and children ≥ 13 years:
- Community-acquired pneumonia and acute exacerbation of chronic bronchitis: Cefpodoxime 200 mg per dose, every 12 hours, for 10–14 days
- Mild to moderate skin and soft tissue infections: Cefpodoxime 400 mg per dose, every 12 hours, for 7–14 days
- Treatment of uncomplicated urethral infections in men and women, and rectal and endocervical infections in women:
- A single dose of cefpodoxime 200 mg, followed by doxycycline therapy to prevent Chlamydia infection.
- Elderly patients: No dose adjustment is required in elderly patients with normal renal function.
- Children aged 5 months to 12 years: Acute otitis media:Cefpodoxime 5 mg/kg (maximum 200 mg) every 12 hours, or 10 mg/kg (maximum 400 mg) once daily, for 10 days.
- Dosage adjustment in renal impairment:
- Dose reduction is required according to the degree of renal impairment. In patients with creatinine clearance < 30 ml/min and not undergoing hemodialysis: administer the usual dose every 24 hours.
- In patients undergoing hemodialysis: administer the usual dose 3 times per week.
CONTRAINDICATIONS
Hypersensitivity to cephalosporins
Patients with disorders of porphyrin metabolism
