INDICATIONS
Treatment of bacterial infections, including:
• Respiratory tract infections
• Skin and soft tissue infections
• Bone and joint infections
• Septicemia and endocarditis
• Biliary tract and genitourinary infections
• Surgical prophylaxis
DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION
Dosage
Adults:
Mild to moderate infections: 0.5 – 1 g every 6 – 12 hours
Severe infections: Total daily dose may be 6 – 12 g/day
Children: 25 – 50 mg/kg per 24 hours
Patients with renal impairment: Dose reduction is required according to specific medical guidance.
Surgical prophylaxis: 1 g administered 30 minutes to 1 hour before surgery. For prolonged surgical procedures: an additional dose of 0.5 – 1 g may be administered during surgery.
Postoperative dosing: 0.5 – 1 g every 6 – 8 hours for 24 hours, or for up to 5 days in certain cases (such as open-heart surgery or orthopedic implant procedures).
Method of administration
Intramuscular injection: Reconstitute 1 g of cefazolin with 2.5 mL of sterile water for injection or 0.9% sodium chloride. Shake well until the powder is completely dissolved.
Intravenous injection: Reconstitute 1 g of cefazolin with 10 mL of sterile water for injection. Administer by slow IV injection over 3 – 5 minutes. Shake well until the powder is completely dissolved.
Intermittent intravenous infusion: Reconstitute 1 g of cefazolin in 50 – 100 mL of sterile water for injection or in a suitable infusion solution (e.g. 0.9% sodium chloride, 5% glucose, or dextrose–sodium solution).
Stability of reconstituted solutions
Reconstituted cefazolin solutions for intramuscular or intravenous use remain stable for up to 72 hours when stored under refrigeration at 5 ± 3°C.
CONTRAINDICATIONS
Patients with hypersensitivity to any component of the product or to cephalosporin antibiotics.
