Long Chau and STADA Pymepharco join hand to advance public awareness on overweight & obesity prevention
Long Chau, in partnership with German-owned STADA Pymepharco, launched a series of community initiatives aimed at raising public awareness of scientific weight management and promoting long-term health protection
At an event held on November 23, 2025, a representative from Long Chau cited statistics from the World Health Organization (WHO), noting that in 2022, approximately 16% of adults aged 18 and above worldwide were living with obesity – double the rate recorded in 1990. Meanwhile in Vietnam, around 25% of adults are facing overweight or obesity. Among children and adolescents aged 5–19, the prevalence rose sharply from 8.5% in 2010 to 19% in 2020, with urban areas reaching 26.8%.
Medical experts consider overweight and obesity are key contributors to many serious diseases, increasing the risk of non-communicable diseases and leading to earlier disease onset. According to WHO, typical conditions include musculoskeletal complications, neurological disorders, type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, and cancer. These conditions not only negatively affect individual health, but also create broader social and economic challenges through increased healthcare costs and reduced labor productivity.
