At the end of March 2024, the Ho Chi Minh City Respiratory Society successfully hosted the 18th Annual Scientific Conference and Continuing Medical Education (CME) Program at the Binh Thuan Provincial Convention Center. With the theme “Respiratory Practice – Future Directions,” the event welcomed over 1,000 healthcare professionals (HCPs) from across Vietnam. The conference featured scientific updates delivered by leading local and international experts, offering both timely insights and long-term perspectives for the development of respiratory medicine in Vietnam.
Day One: Strengthening Clinical Practice
The CME sessions on the first day provided in-depth knowledge in adult and pediatric respiratory care through a series of focused presentations:
- “Techniques in Arterial Blood Gas Sampling and Interpretation” chaired by Dr. Do Thi Tuong Oanh, Lecturer, Department of Internal Medicine, Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine
- “Chronic Cough and Respiratory Function Testing” chaired by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Thi Tuyet Lan, President of the HCMC Society of Asthma, Allergy and Clinical Immunology
- “Congenital Respiratory Malformations in Children: From Diagnosis to Medical or Surgical Management” chaired by Dr. Tran Anh Tuan, Head of Respiratory Department, Children’s Hospital 1
These sessions offered practical, evidence-based knowledge that enhanced diagnostic and treatment capabilities for clinical practitioners.
Day Two: Strategic Perspectives in Modern Respiratory Medicine
The plenary session featured high-level insights from leading experts:
- “Hospital-Acquired and Ventilator-Associated Pneumonia Management – MOH Guidelines 2023” – Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Van Ngoc, President of the HCMC Respiratory Society
- “Challenges in Modern Respiratory Medicine” – Prof. Dr. Dinh Xuan Anh Tuan, University of Corsica, France
- “The Airway: Structure, Function, and the Development of Chronic Obstructive Ventilation in COPD” – Dr. Nguyen Van Thanh, Vice President of the Vietnam Pulmonary Association
Following the plenary session, multiple parallel tracks were conducted with active participation from professors, PhDs, and doctors representing leading hospitals nationwide such as Bach Mai, Cho Ray, Thong Nhat, People’s Hospital 115, University Medical Center HCMC, Children’s Hospital 1 & 2, and Nguyen Tri Phuong Hospital. These sessions introduced new research and treatment approaches currently being explored and applied in clinical practice.
